Choose dates around the trip you want

Start with December–March if beach time is your priority. This is Phuket's usual drier travel window, but it does not promise a calm sea, clear skies or an operating boat tour on your dates. If your dates fall in May–October, make an on-island holiday the core plan and treat offshore trips as optional. April and November need more flexibility around the seasonal transition.

Phuket is on Thailand's Andaman coast. Do not apply the Gulf islands' seasonal calendar to it. The Thai government's monsoon explanation describes moist southwest winds from roughly mid-May to mid-October; local onset and retreat vary. Our choices below are planning guidance, not a forecast for a particular week.

Which season fits your priorities?

For a short stay: avoid making your only full day depend on a sea crossing. For a longer stay: a spare day may let you move an excursion, but it cannot guarantee that it will run. Compare complete quotes for your dates; this guide has no current hotel-price dataset and does not identify a universally cheapest month.

Turn the forecast into a usable day plan

1. Before booking: ask which island or park the tour actually enters, whether access is open for your date, who decides cancellation, and whether you receive a refund or another date. A tour listing alone is not confirmation that every stop is open.
2. As departure approaches: check the Thai Meteorological Department forecast and warnings for Phuket and the southern west coast, including waves and thunderstorms. If that site is unavailable, the Met Office Phuket forecast is another weather source; it does not replace local marine restrictions or the operator's departure decision.
3. Before leaving for the pier: reconfirm the trip and pickup with the operator. Leave time between an offshore return and a flight or onward booking. Follow any port or park closure.
4. At the beach: follow posted warnings and lifeguard instructions. Do not enter under a red no-swimming flag. Sunshine or the absence of a flag does not establish safe water conditions. FCDO swimming guidance warns about strong currents, particularly during the monsoon.

If the sea trip is cancelled

Use a land-based alternative that also works in rain: a cooking class with a confirmed booking, a museum whose opening hours you have checked, or a sheltered meal near your accommodation. Save an Old Town walk for suitable conditions. If flooding or severe-weather warnings affect roads, stay put and follow local instructions; an indoor destination is useful only if the journey there is safe.

Example plan, not a weather prediction: keep one day for an island excursion only if it is operating, one for an Old Town walk with an indoor alternative, and one uncommitted. If the marine outlook stays poor, use the on-island alternatives rather than searching for a boat willing to ignore a warning.

Pack for sun, rain and the activities you booked

• Every season: light clothing, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a refillable bottle and any personal medicines. A light layer can help in air-conditioned transport.
• Rain or boat transfers: a compact rain layer, quick-drying clothes, footwear with grip and splash protection for electronics. Keep documents protected; a phone pouch is not safety equipment for swimming or boating.
• Longer stays: plan a laundry stop and enough spare clothing for drying delays, instead of assuming every washed item will dry overnight.

Questions before you choose a month

Is February guaranteed to have six dry days in a week?

No. A monthly count of wet days cannot predict the sequence of days on your trip. Use the seasonal window to shortlist dates, then use current forecasts and local instructions for daily decisions.

Does a rainy day mean rain all day?

No. A wet-day count says nothing about how long an individual shower lasts. Dividing monthly rainfall by wet days gives an average daily amount for those days, not rainfall intensity or the duration of an event. Do not plan on every shower ending after twenty minutes.

Why is there no precise monthly rainfall table here?

The previous table did not identify its averaging period, model or wet-day threshold, so it cannot support a defensible month ranking. Open-Meteo's historical archive uses reanalysis: observations combined with mathematical models, including estimated values. A reproducible series would need those details; it would still describe past conditions rather than guarantee your trip's weather.

Can I swim or take a boat in the rainy season?

That depends on the particular day, location, warnings and service. No season makes every beach safe or every route operational. Make the decision from local conditions and official restrictions, not this calendar.
