For a first shortlist, look at April to October for the generally drier season and November to March for the generally wetter season. Indonesia's tourism ministry uses these broad ranges for Bali. They describe a seasonal tendency, not the weather on your travel dates. Rain can disrupt an outdoor day in either season.
If you can move your dates, compare May, June and September with July and August. The latter overlap with major school holidays and can be busy. Compare actual flights, rooms and cancellation terms for the same itinerary; no month is always the cheapest.

Check the calendar for the year you will travel, especially Nyepi. Ask your accommodation and carrier about access and service arrangements before booking around it; the date changes each year.
Check the place and activity, not just “Bali weather”
- Before choosing dates: use Indonesia Travel's season overview and the BMKG seasonal outlook. An outlook helps with the broad pattern; it cannot promise a clear afternoon.
- Near departure: open BMKG's local weather forecast, select the destination you will actually visit, and read the issue time and valid period. Denpasar does not stand in for every coast or upland stop.
- For a boat trip: check BMKG maritime forecasts and warnings for the relevant crossing, then confirm with the operator. A dry land forecast does not establish sea conditions or confirm a sailing.
- For a hike: confirm current access and local instructions with the operator or site authority. Allow a different day or activity if conditions change.
Keep one useful alternative for your main outing
Choose the activity you would most regret missing, then work backwards from its cancellation terms. For a Nusa Penida day trip, for example, record the operator's decision time and choose a nearby land-based alternative. Avoid making a weather-dependent return crossing your only way to reach an onward flight.
For an Ubud sightseeing day, pair an outdoor stop with an indoor visit or class whose opening hours you have checked. This is a planning example, not a claim that mornings will be clear or that a storm will finish in an hour.

What historical weather can tell you
Use climate information to compare seasons, then forecasts for the days you will be there. A single year's wet May does not redefine every future May as wet season.
Open-Meteo's historical archive uses reanalysis: observations combined with models that estimate conditions. It is not a table of direct measurements at your hotel. The former 2025 table on this page lacked enough method detail to reproduce it, so it is no longer used to rank travel months.
A monthly rain total divided by rainy days gives an average amount per counted wet day. It does not reveal hourly intensity, storm duration, time of day, or whether a boat will sail. Longer climate baselines and local differences also matter.
Turn the plan into a packing list
Keep sun protection and light rain protection available in either season. Add footwear for your activities, protection for items that must stay dry, and layers appropriate to any upland stops. Recheck the forecast before you close the bag.

Is May a bad month for Bali?
Not on the basis of one wet year. It falls within the broad drier-season range used by Indonesia Travel. Check the current outlook and compare the conditions your activities need.
Does wet season mean rain all day?
The season label alone cannot answer that. Check a dated local forecast; neither a monthly total nor a rainy-day count tells you how many usable hours your day will have.
Which month guarantees good weather for boats?
None. Check maritime warnings and the operator's current decision for your route, and preserve a fallback.
When should I book for the lowest price?
Compare quotes for your exact route, room type and booking conditions across several date windows. A general season guide cannot verify a cheapest month for your trip.
